What is Acupuncture?

The practices of acupuncture has its roots in ancient China, with this system of medicine being thousands of years old. Acupuncture is a key component of Chinese Medicine, which is based on the idea of balancing the body’s natural energy, or Qi (pronounced 'chee'). According to Chinese medicine, Qi flows through pathways in the body called meridians. When this flow is disrupted or blocked, it can lead to discomfort or illness. Balancing qi can be looked at from a Western point of view as helping the body systems achieve optimal function through supporting homeostasis.

The practice of acupuncture involves inserting fine, sterile, single use needles into specific points along these meridians to restore balance, improve the flow of Qi, and support the body’s natural healing processes. The needles used are thin, some roughly the width of a human hair. Over the centuries, acupuncture has evolved and integrated with modern research, making it both a time-tested and evidence-based method for promoting health and wellness.

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine is a key part of Chinese Medicine and, with acupuncture, has been used for thousands of years to restore and maintain health. It is based on the idea that the body, mind, and environment are interconnected, and it seeks to address the root causes of imbalances rather than just treating symptoms.

Chinese herbal formulas are typically made from a combination of plant-based ingredients, such as roots, bark, leaves, and seeds, along with minerals and occasionally animal products. Each herb is chosen for its specific properties, and the combinations are carefully tailored to suit your unique health needs.

The goal is to support the body’s natural healing processes by strengthening internal systems, addressing imbalances, and promoting harmony. Herbal medicine can be used on its own or in combination with other treatments, like acupuncture, for a more comprehensive approach to wellness.
